Log gland prop shaft seal.
Tawco Marine log glands are cast in gunmetal for strength and durability. Gunmetal is highly resistant to corrosion from salt water. Gunmetal is used to make steam and hydraulic castings, valves and gears and has a tensile strength of 221 to 310 MPa,a specific gravity of 8.7,a density 8,719 kg/m3,and a Brinell hardness of 65 to 74. We cast the log glands through a foundry process to incorporate a recessed grease passage to transfer grease evenly along the length of the shaft where in contact with the seal to reduce wear and increase the life of the shaft and the seal. These quality log glands are machined on a CNC lathe for a precision fit of seals and circlips making this log gland a premium product used by ski boat manufacturers in Australia. Beware of cheap imitation log glands which are machined from solid brass and are of an inferior quality due to their poor design and material characteristics.
